STOP PRESS :
Thursday 27th November @ 3:30 p.m.
It is with a very heavy heart, that as a result of many deliberations by
the Activities Team of the Lions Club of New Milton & District, that my
team and I have had to make the very tough decision to cancel The Lions
New Milton Christmas Festival and Parade, scheduled for this Saturday 29th
November.
It is especially sad that the New Milton Community will have lost
its renowned Christmas Festival for the second year running, as last
year we were in the middle of a major storm. This year, the
Forecasts almost unanimously suggest heavy rain through most of the
morning and whilst there are moderate breezes that are forecast, several
agencies are predicting quite high levels of gusts. The Met Office has
also just an hour or so ago, issued a warning of “An unsettled weekend
to come” which mainly impacts the South Coast and Southern Counties.
Based on a wide range of current forecasts, the Team has had to
consider the difficulties of setting up for our many stallholders with
ongoing rain throughout the morning at least, the likely ramifications
on the Parade and the work involved in setting up, with low expectations
of the public turning out, given the rain forecast for the main part of
the day. And of paramount importance, we needed to consider the safety
and wellbeing aspects of the large crowds always anticipated at our
Festival and the many participants in the Festival, the Parade and on
the Stage.
