Lions Club International encourage Lions to collect old and unwanted spectacles so that they can be recycled and sent to countries where they are desparately needed.
Spektrek is an Annual event organised by the Chichester Lions Club. The first Spektrek was in 1982. Each year, the Club collects over 100,000 pairs of unwanted spectacles from Lions Clubs closeby. These are then passed on for sorting, grading and then onwards transmission to the third world. Over the years, nearly 2.5 million pairs of specs have been collected.
As it costs at least £100 per pair of glasses, each year the equivalent of £10 million is raised through collecting spectacles.
In New Milton, you can drop your Spectacles off at Boots Opticians in Station Road, in Lymington you can drop them off at Boots Optiicians in the High Street and in Christchurch at Raxworthy Opticians at 22 High Street.
Alternatively, if you need to drop them off elsewhere, please call 07771 754205 and we can advise where they can be left.
We can only accept Glases and not Cases or Cloths.
